Do you remember? Well … do you? I mean – Margaritaville, Here Comes the Sun, Wild World … and of course, every Georgia Southern coed’s favorite, Stairway to Heaven (or as my friend & producer Jeff Franklin calls it, “Stairway to Freebird”)? Classics indeed … tune from the “good old days” … songs that bring back a lot of great memories. Memories that we may not have even shared with our friends or even our spouses! Yea … I’m sure you remember. Which is why, at age 50, I decided to dust off my old Yamaha guitar, slurp down some Jägermeister & lemon juice, and give my passion for making this music a try once again.
It all started back in college … some 25-30 years ago, when I would head down to Hilton Head for the summer to play my tunes at the Quality Inn, the Earle of Sandwich, the Quarterdeck Lounge, or any other place that would pay a few bucks to hear Cat Stevens. It was my “summer job”, and it didn’t take me long to realize that Dire Straits was right … making music got me “money for nothing & the chicks were free”.
So I’m back after a 25 year vacation with the old stuff … and a few new ones as well. I'll even throw in a Brother Burr original (He Giveth, and Giveth, and Giveth Again). The way I figured it – after all I’ve done, and all I’ve been through over the past 30 years, a little touch of Jesus would do me good.
And for the record, I don’t know how my hair got so fuzzy (?). My dad had a theory but it ain’t fit to print here. Some say it’s was because my cousin Jody Cooley threw a bunch of sugar-sweet Cool Aid on my head when we were little. No kidding! Judge P.B. (“Little Preston”) Lewis swears to it – and he’s a Judge! So maybe that’s what happened – I don’t know? If that’s it, all I can say is “thanks cuz”, and thanks to you too Cool-Aid! It’s been one “helluva” ride!
So I hope you will enjoy it as much as I enjoy making this music again!
Thanks to all,
Brother Burr
